Thank you for your interest in my Art Story
Gerry Hacker, Artist
Inspire
Like many of the people who enjoy my art, I paint and draw what I find attractive. I love animals and people, therefore, most of my art centers around these subjects. My work reflects an impressionistic approach where I want those who enjoy my work to be drawn to each piece in their own specific way. I started as a watercolorist but have expanded my exploration of art into the mediums of pastel, pen and ink, and colored pencil. I have been influenced throughout my life by master illustrators and artists such as N.C. Wyeth. Frederic Remington and Charles Russel.
Background
I do not have a formal education in art, I am a self-taught artist. My first introduction to art was at 10 years old when I discovered the art of Frederic Remington and Charles Russel. Both of these excellent artists inspired me to want to pursue western themed art. Over the ensuing years I have become more flexible in my approach to art. Now I have expanded my subject matter interest to include a variety of interesting subjects to paint and draw. When I was a young soldier in the Army and lived a barracks life, I chose to use watercolor to save my precious personal space. As I advanced in the service and was able to move into a place of my own, I was able to acquire more art supplies and therefore expand my art medium to include pastel, acrylic painting and charcoal drawings.
Passion
I enjoy when my art is appealing to the people who view my pictures. Although I am never really satisfied with any of my completed work, I am pleased when someone appreciates the work I put into each piece. I stive to always be better than I feel I am and study other artist’s work to glean as much knowledge as I can to achieve my next level of artistry. Someday I hope to leave a legacy that my family and I can take pride in and bring satisfaction to the greater art world.
